Diary # 12
Apparently there is a king tide and former tropical cyclone Fehi is causing chaos around New Zealand. We are tucked up in Milford sound and the rain has barely taken a smoko.
Albatross can have a wingspan up to 3.3m
They are the largest seabirds.
Whales are thought to have evolved from mesonychids who were cat like land animals that spent far too long in the swamps, then gradually whale-ified. That’s incredible!
Sperm whales can dive thousands of metres deep.
‘Cetaceans' comprise all whales, dolphins, porpoises.
Fastest human swam at 8.6kph
Killer whales 55 kph
Sperm whales have a 2000m dive, down for 2 hours.
